Cabbage Study

Last year I grew cabbage in my garden and fell in love with how gorgeous they are.  This year, I asked my friend, Shelleace if we could paint one from her garden with the root stock in all it's perfect glory! I like this "vegetable" thing!

Baby Eggplants

This year, I tried to eat "local" by going to the great little farm stands
around my camp in Vermont.  I fell in love with these baby eggplants and hurried home to paint them before they went bad because I had to make curried eggplant soup with them (YUM). The flowers are all from my garden in the front yard.

"Morning Glory in the Dark"

So I grabbed this morning glory first thing in the morning when the sun was still coming up. I hope I captured the brightness of the flower against the dark.  Sometimes simple things can be really nice to look at.

Fishing on the Winooski River

This 20 x 24" painting was accomplished in the studio after painting a small watercolor/gouache this spring off the Heineberg Road in Colchester Vermont. The fisherman was a friendly guy. It's really nice how art can be a start to interesting conversations!

Alstroemeria

This is the first in an upcoming series of small works of flowers and veggies. I loved the contrast of the flower against the dark background. I hope you do too. 6 x 4" in Oil.

A Long Walk

Here is the final painting of lots of preparatory small works to find the mood and atmosphere of what I wanted to convey at  Riverside Park in Bonita. Hmmm, makes me want to go for a walk. 10 x 20"

Plein Aire Study for a Long Walk

There is a really cool spot in Bonita Springs on a dock that John Cooney and I decided to try and do some plein aire painting. My first attempt was not very successful, so I figured out what I didn't like and came up with this study.  The larger painting was then again painted on location and in the studio with this little painting as a reference. 5 x 10"

Onion with Personality

After riding on a golf cart to a farmers market (how fun is that!) I picked up a couple of beautiful onions with these gorgeous stems. When I put it on the table, the personality of it's droopy leaves just begged to be remembered with paint! 12 x 9"

Nestled Cabin

Sissy Blakslee and I tooled around her neighborhood in Fort Myers, Florida until we found this beautiful group of pines with a cabin nestled in the background. It reminded me of Vermont, but yet I felt warm and content while painting in 80 degrees (sorry Vermonters!) 9 x 12"

Still Life with David and Red Dahlia

This 16 x 20 " painting was accomplished with many attempts at painting in and around lots of chaos with company and a busy schedule.  I think it took three attempts over three months but I couldn't give it up!

"Sunflowers with Lindy"

These sunflowers were such an inspiration! And I thoroughly enjoyed painting them alongside my friend, Lindy. 11 x 14"

Vegetable Series

This is Dan's idea and one I like. I'll be adding to the "Vegetable Series" as time goes on. These little paintings are 6 x 4" but yet they take quite a bit of time! Ever taste kohlarbri? Delicious!

Pears and Browns

This was a study when teaching a fellow painter how to mass in. We worked with a complimentary palette of purples and yellows and fully absorbed ourselves in the warmth of these colors. 16 x 20"

"Flamingos"

This painting is 36 x 24". I really enjoyed designing and painting it. It came from a day with my grandchildren at Animal Kingdom at Disney. I plan on designing another to hang with it and have some concepts for square paintings with these birds. I didn't worry about how "realistic" it was, but wanted it to reflect the brightness I saw when I was inspired by them.

"Shangri-La"

This is a large painting: 30 x 40'. It was a commission for a couple who love this old hotel in Bonita Springs. The difficulty was getting a proper photo because it's been closed up for repairs for several years and I haven't actually SEEN it. It was a test of some creativity, that's for sure!
